NanoPi R4S Users
I am building my own using https://github.com/anaelorlinski/OpenWrt-NanoPi-R2S-R4S-Builds

NanoPi R6S - 2.3Gbps Throughput with only 5W of Power Consumption
https://github.com/anaelorlinski/OpenWrt-NanoPi-R2S-R4S-Builds A quick search gave me these builds. Apparently those are close to vanilla, updated and have the OC feature? Im gonna try it on my R2S and will update you on that!

Similar priced NanoPi R4S alternatives?
Make sure you buy the 4GB version if you want better support for openwrt. I have the 1GB and had to compile my own version using https://github.com/anaelorlinski/OpenWrt-NanoPi-R2S-R4S-Builds

Concepts and subjects to focus on
On a related note, check out IoTGoat - it's a deliberately insecure IoT firmware image based on OpenWRT that you can use to explore a lot of common design flaws in embedded Linux devices: https://github.com/OWASP/IoTGoat
-
We are cybersecurity researchers who wrote a book teaching people how to hack the Internet of Things, called Practical IoT Hacking. Ask us anything!
We have a chapter on methodologies in the book and go into a lot of detail on how we test. We also created the free OWASP IoT Goat project - a deliberately insecure IoT firmware that you can use for a testbed.
