OctaSine VS enso

Since I last posted here, I've implemented multiple features for OctaSine, a free and open source frequency modulation synth plugin (VST2, CLAP), some of which were heavily requested.

I just released version 0.8.2 of OctaSine, my free and open source frequency modulation synth (source code on GitHub). It is available as a VST2 plugin for macOS, Windows and Linux.

Then I'd heavily recommend trying out a free FM synth VST before spending any money ;). Dexed is popular, but maybe a bit too much (6 operators), this one or this one might be a bit easier (4 operators) - and your DAW probably already has its own FM synth, like Abletons Operator or FL Studios Sytrus.

OctaSine, a digital frequency modulation synthesizer

I am the developer of aquatic, a BitTorrent tracker with world-leading performance, and OctaSine, a frequency modulation digital synthesizer (both written in Rust).

I have been working in Rust for about 4 years, mainly as the developer of aquatic and OctaSine and as a contributor to baseview. I have prior experience in web development using technologies such as actix-web, TypeScript, React, Django and PostgreSQL.

Yeah as said, https://github.com/enso-org/enso seems to be a general purpose functional programming language with visual editor, but otherwise I haven't really seen any no-code solutions worth their salt. I'm not particularly a fan of enso either, but it's the best I've seen.

Although it's not quite the same, I do like what Enso[0] is bringing to the table, especially the 1:1 visual node/language interop. Whether this is generalisable to a fully decoupled interface remains to be seen, but there's definitely potential.

Friends of mine are developing Enso (https://enso.org/), an interactive programming language with dual visual and textual representations.

Even well before Bret Victor's time, there were tools for visual programming. I have been using LabView to maintain data processing in an optical laboratory.

At my last 2 jobs I spent entirely too much time debugging Matillion jobs, which are visual. I have my doubts that it’s the panacea that it appears to be.
