Are there any weapon expansion mods
Forgotten Armament and Underrepresented Items are both great mods. They do a lot to make different weapon groups more viable, so taking halberd or bastard sword proficiency feels like a better option.

BGII EE essential mods
For item mods, I like Forgotten Armament and Underrepresented Items, which port items from NWN2 and Icewind Dale, respectively. Good for fleshing out certain weapon categories that are otherwise a little sparse (clubs, bastard swords, etc).
What are some alternatives?
bg1ub - Similar to its BG2 cousin, BG1 Unfinished Business ("BG1UB") is designed to restore many of the cut items, quests, dialog, and encounters from the game's final release, as well as try to tie up some of the "loose ends."

Back_to_Brynnlaw - A Questmod for Baldur's Gate II (BGII, BGT, BGII:EE, EET)
Item_Upgrade - The Item Upgrade Mod Pack allows Cromwell and Cespenar to upgrade more items for you. Half of them are conveniences, the other half try to prop up weapon categories that are "weak" by comparison (e.g., maces and clubs).
UnfinishedBusiness - This is a game mod for the game Baldur's Gate 2, which aims to finish dangling plots, clean up loose ends and un-dummy dummied out content.
The_Boareskyr_Bridge_Scene - A mod for Siege of Dragonspear that gives more impact to the important scene at Boareskyr Bridge.
Baldurs-gate-dnd-3.5 - This is a WeiDu mod for BG:Enchanced edition that changes 2ed ADnD rules to DnD 3.5 with some elements taken from Pathfinder
Black-Hearts-BG2 - Black Hearts for BG2 (separate install)
gorgon - A mod for BG:EE that adds a thieves guild into the town of Beregost.
Assassinations - A Questmod for Baldur's Gate II (BGII, BGT, BGII:EE, EET)
