Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Is there a way to replace symlinks with the contents of what they point to when staging?
I did find a tool called GitBSLR which was written to add support. I don't think I'd recommend actually using it. Even though it's an impressive hack, to me the whole thing doesn't seem like a good idea. Instead, I mentioning it because the fact that someone bothered to write it looks like pretty good confirmation that Git doesn't have the feature.
