Can someone ELI5 Z-Wave (specifically Z-Wave JS)?
That said, I started going down this rabbit hole because I am trying to set up Keymaster in order to control my z-wave smart locks. More specifically, I am trying to use the features that allow me to set up multiple combination codes based on the time of day and day of the week. SmartThings doesn't give me some of those more advanced features that Keymaster does.

But if you run HomeAssistant, you can install the KeyMaster integration. It allows you to, setup PIN codes for your lock via your browser. You can add 24/7/365 codes for your family and codes on a schedule for maids, dog walkers, etc.

Smart lock system for remote management
I use home assistant with rental control and it pulls in the iCal link and automatically adds the code to the lock with the last 4 digits. I use Yale locks with zwave. https://github.com/tykeal/homeassistant-rental-control
