What We Learned Making a Plastic Injection Mold with a Chinese Mold Maker
Yes, I've got my DIY one working with Home Assistant. It is just running on an ESP32 so you can load a configuration to it via ESPHome [1].

As far as "how to integrate", you can flash the wemos D1's with ESPHome and import them to Home Assistant. There's an existing pre made version of ESPHome for the air gradient stuff in particular.

Connect Midea Dehumidifier to WiFi without using the App?
Have you replaced the Wifi module with an ESP8266 dongle, or just trying to use the stock one? This and this are usually the go-to options.

Connecting AC to a Thermometer/Thermostat
If really you want to go all in, swap the WiFi module with something like this, this, or this, write your own ESPHome yaml code, and configure away.

I got my dongle connected to wifi, how to I do anything with it?
I bought an ESP dongle for my mini-split (https://github.com/dudanov/iot-uni-dongle). When plugged in it created a wifi with a captive portal so I could give it my wifi credentials. This all worked fine and I can now see the device on my home network.
