  • Proxmox

    Proxmox VE Helper-Scripts

Project mention: LXC or Portainer for media server | /r/Proxmox | 2023-12-07

There's no one right way to do this. For me, I focused on isolation and containment. So I used LXCs for everything with Plex as the only Privileged container. All other *arrs remained unprivileged. My data resides on a NAS elsewhere in my network so I had to set up SMB sharing to all the LXCs and as you'll find out, that becomes less than intuitive. I wrote a guide here that details how I configured everything.

Project mention: Thoughts, learnings and regrets after three years on Home Assistant | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-02-12

I have HACS[0] installed in my Docker image, I use it for exactly one integration and the initial setup seemed a little dodgy but it's been pain-free for a couple of years now.

    Project mention: 2/16/24 Wyze Security Incident Update | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-02-19

Not my project but I have had great success with https://github.com/gtxaspec/wz_mini_hacks & V3 model.

The V3 models need to be downgraded to a specific firmware first and patching it exposes RSTP streams using https://github.com/AlexxIT/go2rtc. Everything doable without ever installing Wyze app on an environment air gapped environment with no internet.

Project mention: How do I backup to google drive without including media dataset? | /r/truenas | 2023-05-05

  • willow

Open source, local, and self-hosted Amazon Echo/Google Home competitive Voice Assistant alternative

    Project mention: Should I Open Source my Company? | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-01-22

    > - People might criticize my messy/bad/unfinished code

As someone who has created and maintained open source projects (most recently Willow[0]) for two decades I get a kick out of this.

Of course when interacting with users and feedback I keep it polite but in my head I'm thinking "You like to talk. I actually DID this. Shut up or submit a PR".

Surprise surprise they almost never do.

  • docker-wyze-bridge

WebRTC/RTSP/RTMP/LL-HLS bridge for Wyze cams in a docker container

    Project mention: 2/16/24 Wyze Security Incident Update | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-02-19

I finally gave up trying to use the mini hacks to make RTSP work reliably. I ended up using Wyze Bridge [0] instead, and it has been far more stable. Using Frigate for the web UI. It doesn't make for a local-only solution, but I don't use my cameras to record anything that would bother me if other people saw it.

  • XiaomiGateway3

Control Zigbee, BLE and Mesh devices from Home Assistant with Xiaomi Gateway 3 on original firmware

  • rhasspy

Offline private voice assistant for many human languages

Project mention: New project: Grocy Rhasspy Skill | /r/grocy | 2023-04-04

I've been working on this for a few months now and I think I have it to a point where I am ready to share. This is definitely a very niche solution but I am creating a new skill handler for Grocy for the Open Source Voice Assistant Rhasspy (https://github.com/rhasspy/rhasspy). My handler is here: https://github.com/MCHellspawn/hermes-app-grocy. It is not complete yet but getting there. With is skill and a working Rhasspy 2.5 setup you can do a lot of tasks in Grocy with your voice. So far you can create and delete shopping lists, create products and add and remove them from shopping lists, list chores, mark them complete or skipped, and more.

  • android

:iphone: Home Assistant Companion for Android (by home-assistant)

Project mention: How to keep tabs on GitHub Repositories' new releases of software? | /r/androidapps | 2023-04-11

Otherwise, I am thinking of just polling the release page (for example https://github.com/home-assistant/android/releases/latest) with some API and checking for changes in the new URL that it redirects to. But this seems quite "dirty" really.

  • ble_monitor
