How's gaming on Gentoo?
Other than the CSGO issue, I think, for some placebo reason, gaming is better on gentoo. Maybe this is because since on gentoo you know what's in your system, you know what's wrong when something does go wrong? For example my personal experience is as follows: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2-Vulkan/issues/397

Dota 2 on POP OS 22.04 LTS
Yes, happened to me as well, Manjaro, it is mainly because of Vulkan API, you can read my detailed bug report on the GitHub issue Here

Alongside the tinker nerf, techies rework, new maps etc. One thing that we as a community should demand is massive spring cleaning update.
Turns out, it's actually a bug in Dota's Vulkan implementation: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2-Vulkan/issues/402

I Can't Quit Dota.

Dota 2 not running Low end Ubuntu (20.04LTS)
You can check my profile I made a post on this sub about vulkan. I also opened a GitHub issue on dota 2's vulkan page. I too have to use -gl. Also my computer is better than yours (4c/8th, 5.7gb ram), so the possibility that your PC can't play vulkan specifically just got lower! Anyway if you want vulkan fixed make sure to make yourself heard on the GitHub page (if that's not against the rules, that is)! Here it is : https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2-Vulkan/issues/397

Can anyone play dota 2 with vulkan?
I opened a github issue but haven't gotten any feedback yet.

Dota 2 update for 11/15/21 (11/16/21 UTC, 32-bit, DirectX 9 & OpenGL End-Of-Life)
I've also had issues with Vulkan randomly crashing with a segfault. I reported it ~6 months ago but doesn't look like anything's been done: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2-Vulkan/issues/382
-
reminder about compatibility
Nope, Vulkan works great here for years (except long shader caching issue, but no crashes). Report it to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2-Vulkan with proper info instead of vague angry posts.
- Ubuntu 20.04.3 Dota 2 screen is flickering when using Vulkan API

What is Feral Interactive's "gamemode" really for? What does it do? Does it really work?
According to the GitHub page:
- Gamemode 1.8 Released
-
Pop_Os and Heroic dont launch games
A performance optimiser, GameMode by Feral Interactive. It’s not required for anything to launch (unless maybe you’ve configured something to run via gamemoderun and GameMode isn’t actually installed on your system!)
-
Can't find gamemode.ini
EDIT: Nevermind, fixed it. Just create a file called gamemode.ini in $HOME/.config/, and copy inside this.

Bottles – Easily run Windows software on Linux
The ArchWiki has some tips that can help tuning your system to squeeze more performance: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/gaming
This launcher does help too: https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode
On top of that, you can use a patched kernel like: https://xanmod.org/
You can check support status for games here: https://www.protondb.com/
If you run games via Proton with DXVK, you can use the environment variable DXVK_HUD=1 to show a HUD with an FPS meter. Some others prefer mangohud.
Setting your CPU frequency scaling governor and GPU to performance mode also helps.
