Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you. But I suggest try copying and pasting a doc or two into OnlyOffice and see if you get the weird spacing. It's known Google intentionally makes some stuff not work in FF but they make everything work perfectly in chromium browsers. After experiencing this myself I stopped using Google products if they choose to not make their products work across all browsers.

Any other office package. ONLYOFFICE is free. SoftMaker Office is better and free. LibreOffice. All Online Office versions, like Google Docs. Heck, you can even install Microsoft Office, as it will allow reading files, even if not changing them.

There is the pinebook pro for 200$ its much lighter then those devices but you would need to use OnlyOffice and that would be a deal breaker?

  • Considering Upgrading to W11, worrying about files
    reddit.com/r/Windows11 | 2021-10-21
  • Does cryptomator actually encrypt files on ios ? Is it actually worth £8.99?
I would therefore suggest to a) never let anyone get access to your cloud provider, b) keep your passwords very secure, and c) use a 16 character long password. The vault encryption (AES256) is enough to protect your files, with current computing power, for thousands of years.
  • So. Does it work for anyone?
    reddit.com/r/Cubbit | 2021-10-13
I like the concept though, but still don't trust the company. What I would do is use cryptomator with this solution, that way you know there's no way they can decrypt your files. I would also place this cell outside my network, on a dmz with no possibility to access my network and only access the internet.
  • Encrypt each file in a folder and upload ?
Why not use something like Cryptomator.
  • NAS Vs Online Cloud
I would personally do both if you can, using something like Cryptomator or CryptSync to encrypt the cloud copy before it leaves your network.
  • What are your guy's reasons for self hosting? Particularly cloud services.
Privacy can be handled by end to end encryption, using rclone + crypt or Cryptomator.
  • Ask HN: How should I back up data on devices if I'm not smart?
    news.ycombinator.com | 2021-10-05
If your most important of important files don't exceed 2GB then Dropbox is a no-brainer.

If you have important files that are roughly ~100GB, Google Drive is only EUR 20 per year to upgrade from their 15Gb free tier to their 100GB offering. Again, a no-brainer.

If you're concerned about the privacy of your files on cloud services, then use Cryptomator[0].

Cryptomator is for more advanced users and you need to read the DOCs before using it. Personally though, I found the interface intuitive and I don't consider myself that smart (depending on your definition of that term).

  • Which would you take?
If you plan on uploading questionable files (like torrents, etc) then just pair it with Cryptomator (insanely easy to use) and put those files in what it calls 'Vaults' – then bam, you're set.
  • Any viable competitors to Standard Notes?
Obsidian seems very nice though if you need more features like linked notes, but depends on if you value the at rest encryption of StandardNotes. You can encrypt the text files yourself (for example, using Cryptomator or VeraCrypt, but editing encrypted text files and synchronizing them won't be as seamless as StandardNotes, especially on a more limited device like a phone.
  • Do you know a good and FOSS diary app?
So you would need to encrypt the local "places.sqlite" file manually because data is stored in plaintext. cryptomator of a simple 7-zip script might work, but now things are getting pretty complicated.
