Printed a 7 mile^2 section of Chicago using LIDAR Data
https://github.com/jawensi/DEMto3D-QGIS-Plugin/issues/26 This is what you have to change to get the plugin to work. I'm doing to do some more work on my code this weekend to see if I can get it to run without needing QGIS at all. My tool is all in Python, but with a few tweaks I should be able to make it so you can give it an arbitrary list of LAS files instead of ones from the USGS website. I'll make a few more tweaks in the meantime, and you can give this edit to the plugin a try and see if that fixes your problem.

Trying to enable these thumbnail previews on a different PC
maybe you had the windows 3D-Viewer pre installed on your PC. If you change tje viewer to your default program to open .stl s it will show a preview as the icon. The picture you uploaded however looks alot like stl-thumb

Can not load files
Ultimaker published a help article about it here: https://support.ultimaker.com/hc/en-us/articles/4402996140946-Ultimaker-Cura-crashes-when-opening-any-file . It helps get rid of the thumbnail generator from Chitubox (while allowing you to keep the rest). I'm using this STL thumbnail generator instead, which works well: https://github.com/unlimitedbacon/stl-thumb
