BrogueCE VS bcrawl

For a long time, most traditional roguelikes were free (although there seem to be more on steam lately). I think Brogue is a good place to start; it isn't too complicated, it has some nice quality of life stuff, cooperates with a mouse, and its pretty for its genre.

I only play community edition, and my ascensions have been lightning, conjuration, teleport and some reaping combinations. My mastery was teleport with invis/reaping support. Multiplicity weapons are good (spear, rapier) but i tend to get ambitious and play hard for a mastery and screw it up.

Your best option is Brogue (community edition), in my opinion.

Brogue is another good option if you're down with rogue-likes, can basically run on anything (& has an Android version).

Broge, Angband, C:DDA, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, are some options.

bcrawl 1.39 is out now.

Depends on the sort of experience you're after, but Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup (DCSS) might be a good option; it was the first RL i started playing regularly other than Nethack. It's changed considerably since i started on version 0.4, but there are also various forks available, such as bcrawl.

bcrawl (releases, changelog, scoring) just got a rework of the ghoul species. Currently, they:

DCSS has several forks, example b-crawl, with other devs that restore content and add new stuff, in those forks, the game is as strong as ever.

DCSS got some branches too, b-crawl is one of them, they try to move forward and add new stuff, something that the main branch seemingly has given up on.

Did you know bhauth maintains the brawl fork of DCSS? His design goals would probably appeal to you https://github.com/b-crawl/bcrawl/blob/master/PHILOSOPHY.md So I'm a little surprised you would respond this way, not least because of how rude and pointless your response is, but also because I would have thought you'd appreciate his efforts.

I now have a 50 game winstreak in bcrawl. In mainline DCSS that would be the 3rd longest streak of all time.

There was an update for bcrawl yesterday. It still has food, monster weapon delay, experience in Abyss, random energy, and no monster closing attacks, and that will continue to be the case.
