Programmatic Video Editing with Python
Avisynth only, but if you want something more IDE like, I'm a big fan of AvsPmod: https://github.com/gispos/AvsPmod (actively maintained fork)
Not a full blown GUI, but it shows you a video preview, syntax highlighting, function definitions for plugins, etc. It doesn't support Vapoursynth, but you can program macros in Python.

FFmpeg 6.0
The manpages are good! I don't use ffmpeg too frequently so, to help myself, I made a cheatsheet (which I update whenever I do something new)

Any recommended drop down terminal well suited to i3?
I used Tilda without any problem for years with -I think- this config. Solid terminal. Now I'm using Kitty (so I can display graphs and images in it), this was the base config and I've updated the toggle-terminal script (current version).
What are some alternatives?
When comparing AvsPmod and dotfiles you can also consider the following projects:
moviepy - Video editing with Python
cartwheel-ffmpeg - Intel developer staging area for unmerged upstream patch contributions to FFmpeg
ffmpeg-python - Python bindings for FFmpeg - with complex filtering support
pydub - Manipulate audio with a simple and easy high level interface
Dependencies - A rewrite of the old legacy software "depends.exe" in C# for Windows devs to troubleshoot dll load dependencies issues.
