Which Version?
You'll need a copy of the unaltered last official release ver. 1.1 (Google=Friend), and the AM2R Launcher. The Launcher will automagically update the official release with all community updates.

Best Free Stuff
There's endless freeware PC games I recommend for people with low spec builds especially like Iji, Cave Story (fuck Nicalis, and download the NXEngine-evo version), and a million and one RPGMaker games like Yume Nikki. There's also really great fangames like Jojo 7th Stand User, Pokémon Infinite Fusion, AM2R, Power Bomberman, and don't get me started on Sonic fangames but a recent one that's fantastic and unique is Sonic and the Fallen Star.

AM2R launcher breaking when trying to download the game on Ubuntu 22.04
If the error has "libgit" anywhere: known issue that was recently fixed in dev builds. https://github.com/AM2R-Community-Developers/AM2RLauncher/issues/40

It's almost like having the Infinity stones
For AM2R there's a bit of a trick.

Help
https://github.com/AM2R-Community-Developers/AM2RLauncher/releases/tag/2.3.0 you should be running am2r thru the launcher and update it to ver 1.5.5, only complication is I think you might need a zip of 1.1 to “reinstall” the game.

AM2R 2.0 Preview Build #2
We *do* have Mac am2rlauncher builds, but they're not ready yet and need a lot of testing / further improvements. If you'd like to help with that, feel free to join on discord/matrix/xmpp and ask on any channel. The tldr; last time i checked is tho, that you need xdelta3 installed via homebrew, download the am2rlauncher release from the actions (https://github.com/AM2R-Community-Developers/AM2RLauncher/actions/workflows/build-and-publish.yml , you need to be logged into github in order to see them) and then run them the launcher from a terminal with "open /path/to/am2rlauncher.app" iirc.
- Does Anyone have the APK for am2r 2.0
- Been playing an older version I found for the vita, after some searching it seems like theres no way to play newer versions, is there a reason for this?
-
With macos version existing and running great, will we see an iOS version?
I am currently in the progress of getting a Mac build of the AM2RLauncher released too, but it currently still needs a bunch of things fixed. WIP builds can be downloaded (you need to be logged into GitHub) here: https://github.com/AM2R-Community-Developers/AM2RLauncher/actions/runs/4047592654

Which Modern Metroidvanias does this sub consider top tier?
Another Metroid 2 Remake.

I think it's fair to say that I no longer hate Metroid II Return of Samus. It was very fun with a pro controller and I now think I want to start speed running it.
Try out AM2R, the fan remake of Metroid II that was released a year before Samus Returns, sometime. IMO, it's the single best fan game ever made.

Favorite unsupported game on the deck
If I recall it has linux and even android builds. Best to check the AM2R subreddit.

I want some recommendations about the prequels of Metroid dread.
AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) - A fan remake that further refines Zero Mission's controls while largely staying faithful to the Original 2's layout.
- Skyline Emulator - Interesting enough I got this to work. My question is, Is how do I make it so the game isn't super fast playing? it's weird because, when I do a video recording ( Example here ) the speed is perfect for the game. lol. Any advice?

Best way to play Metroid AM2R on the Steam Deck and a cautionary tale about non steam linux builds for average users.
Our source code is public on GitHub with a few caveats/bugs due to the DMCA, but building on a user's own end just to play on the Deck is entirely unfeasible for several reasons:

I need your help!
I know that the community updates have fixed a lot of bugs and introduced some cool features and enhancements that you can read about elsewhere on this sub and on their Github and that the work is ongoing. But honestly, I had no issues when I played thru v1.1 on PC initially.
