A Big Fan of the Enhanced Editions, but...

Why did they make Neera so painstakingly annoying?
The Convenient EE NPCs mod lets you choose which ones to disable on a case by case basis - or to shut them up so they can't initiate dialogue with you.

Mod overview: Tweaks, convenience mods, quality of life, and other minor enhancements
Convenient EE NPCs: allows you to remove or render passive the EE NPCs (preventing them from initiating dialogue), or to change their classes or portraits. If you choose to disable all of them, you can also choose to add NPC items to stores if you don’t want to miss out on gear.

Do you have a game you are cursed to always come back to?
Worth noting that if you don't like the EE companions, it's trivially easy to mod them out. I spent enough time with them to confirm that they weren't for me, so now I get the advantages of the EEs without the downsides.

Trying to find what bugged my BG1:EE run (Chapter 4 wouldn't trigger)
My game is v2.6.6.0 from GOG with the following mods: - Convenient Enhanced Edition NPCs (A7-ConvenientEENPCs) - The Tweaks Anthology (cdtweaks) - https://github.com/r-e-d/LeUI-SoD[(LeUI-SoD)](https://github.com/r-e-d/LeUI-SoD) - Rogue Rebalancing (rr)

Playing Baldur’s Gate for the first time!
I HIGHLY recommend installing this mod and removing all of the EE NPCs, at least for your first plathrough.

How to turn Baldur's Gate 1/2 into a dating sim (or, a list of entirely too many romance mods)
Reveal hidden gameplay options - the AOE indicator for spells is really nice.

Mod overview: Tweaks, convenience mods, quality of life, and other minor enhancements
Reveal Hidden Gameplay Options: adds options to the in-game menu that otherwise require editing the ini file. Options include: show spell AOE, debug mode, limit cleric/ranger spells, pause during dialogue, improved pathfinding, no cosmetic attacks, frame rate slider. For best results, install after Tweaks Anthology.

Pathing and Inventory
As far as the pathfinding goes, some people claim that some versions of the EE actually made it worse. I don't remember the classic games (or the earlier versions of the EE) well enough at this point to confirm that, but it might well be true. In any case, there are two options I'm aware of that can improve the pathfinding. One is to increase the Path Search Nodes value in your baldur.lua file. The other is to install the Hidden Gameplay Options mod and enable the Enhanced Path Search setting. Still, you'll sometimes have to micromanage party positioning, especially during combat in tight locations, and there's just no way around that. You can also enable the debug/cheat mode and use the Ctrl+J shortcut to teleport your party. Irrespective of any pathfinding issues, I routinely use that shortcut just to save time when traveling through areas that have already been explored and have no enemies.

Any idea how to enable console commands?
Might be easier just install a mod that unlocks the console for you.
-
(BGEE) blue squares that highlighted all interactable things on screen?
According to the readme of Reveal Hidden Gameplay Options the settings I am talking about are options 28 & 29

For someone who's never played before - best way to experience the Baldur's Gate series?
Easiest way to add teleporting command (Ctrl + J to teleport to mouse cursor location) is to install Reveal Hidden Gameplay Options mod. You want the "Enable Debug Mode" for it. There are two other QoL updates you should grap "Show Area of Effect Range" and "Show trigger icons on tab".

Tweaks-Anthology - The Tweaks Anthology is a WeiDU compilation of nearly 200 components of cosmetic changes, house rules, and other tweaks. Some of these were fan requests, others are needed changes, and others simply make dealing with the more irritating aspects of the game engine easier. Each component can be installed separately so the player can pick and choose only which ones they wish to install.
BG1NPC - The BG1 NPC Project adds a great deal of content by expanding the depth of character and levels of interaction with the NPCs from the Baldur's Gate game. Requires Tutu, BGT, or BGEE.
