Alternative Video Player
I've come accross this app https://github.com/Baozisoftware/nextcloud-videoplayer which is based on videojs (a popular open source HTML5 video player). Despite being quite old looks better to me and has a quite a few more options - such as caption support But, although I'm able to install it, it doesn't seem to work. When click on a video to play it, it will just download it instead. Does anyone have any suggestions? a videojs player would be ideal as it would allow for video annotations via https://github.com/contently/videojs-annotation-comments

Any selfhosted, free, light weight media centre software or learning platforms that has this kind of note taking on videos functionality?
Closest I think you'll get without learning some web dev is Kollaborate self hosted server(it is about $700 I believe) or pydio enterprise has some video note taking. There is a repo on GitHub that does some of it, but not plug and play by any means(pydio enterprise uses this plugin to power their video notes. https://github.com/contently/videojs-annotation-comments
