Need help with VDB in UE5.3!!
Hello everyone, I have a VDB file exported from CFD software, which I need to get into unreal for a project, but it seems the way it's exported is not supported by UE5.3 (or the plugin for 5.2 or older - "Sparse volumetrics, using OpenVDB and NanoVDB"). The VDB file is actually a "secondary" export, from .vtu file which is output by the CFD software. I've tried all the exporting options to get a readable VDB, but had no luck... link to free plugin: https://github.com/eidosmontreal/unreal-vdb This it the error that I get when trying to import the VDB into UE5.2 with the plugin: LogVdbFiles: Error: Cannot import grid Cells (of type ptdataidx32) from file myvdb.vdb. We only support float (scalar) grids yet. LogVdbFiles: Error: Cannot import grid Points (of type ptdataidx32) from file myvdb.vdb. We only support float (scalar) grids yet. And trying in 5.3 results in this error in output log: LogSparseVolumeTextureFactory: Error: OpenVDB file contains no grids of supported type: "path:myvdb.vdb" So in short, I need help with getting this file into UE5 and the method used so I can do the rest of the files by myself. Here are the files: https://easyupload.io/m/ky2rxk Software to open .vtu and export: https://www.paraview.org/download/ Will tip for solution. Thank you!

I'm planning on doing a CGI video with a realistic looking Houdini storm simulation that looks like this. Is Unreal Engine's Houdini implementation enough for something like this or better to make use of a VDB import in Blender?
Haven't used the Houdini plugin so I can't comment on that, but there is a plugin for importing VDB files into Unreal courtesy of Thibault Lambert: https://github.com/eidosmontreal/unreal-vdb

does niagara VFX simulations look as good as a flip book of the same VFX ?
Couple of misconceptions here so let me clarify afaik : while unreal doesn't support VDB format there is a 3rd party plugin on github(free) that allows such functionality https://github.com/eidosmontreal/unreal-vdb

- GitHub - eidosmontreal/unreal-vdb: non-official Unreal plugin that can read OpenVDB and NanoVDB files in Unreal.
