    This (leapp) is literally preupgrade. Does this look like it's created by or maintained by Alma, or that it's not portable? Is there a reason that it would be in the official 7->8 upgrade docs if that were true?

    This is something that thankfully has been changing over the last couple of RHEL releases. Red Hat is finally taking in-place upgrades seriously and they've got a whole team working on it. I recently was in a conference call with their folks about it and they told me about Leapp and their effort to make in-place upgrades painless with that framework.
