Help me understand the archlinux GUI stack
notify-send : I use this to send notifications when I change audio or brightness. With this notify-send https://github.com/vlevit/notify-send.sh/blob/master/notify-send.sh , you can actually overwrite your existing notification, so that it doesn't spam you with lots of different notifications every time the values change. Original notify-send from repos do not have this ability.
