  • I built a molecular structure similarity search application including an interactive demo! Come check it out!! :)

On the backend, this application uses RDKit to find the fingerprint of the molecular, then use Milvus Vector Database to store the fingerprint and enable similarity search.

I need a self managed solution, so I'm not sure Pinecone is feasible and I don't think pgvector scales well enough for my use-case (hundreds of millions of vectors).

So far I think I'm going to go with Milvus[1], ideally I'd just have a foreign data wrapper for Milvus or FAISS.

  • Updated Pi Zero 1080p/30fps Motion Detection project, now Sentry-Picam
A bit off-topic but as I was looking at your project right after looking into some vector databases. Very curious if you see any use-case for this since you're already leveraging the vectors?

  • [P] Embeddinghub: A vector database built for ML embeddings
There seem to be more and more options when it comes to vector databases, but as far as I know, Milvus is probably still the most mature and stable option. And it's also open source.

  • Best Database for facial recognition/ Fast comparisons of Euclidean distance
    reddit.com/r/Database | 2021-08-05
https://milvus.io/ - DB that was made for storing vectors. As far as I know, it can find the distance between them and suitable for face recognition. I haven't tried it though :)
  • Database for Face Recognition
If you have a really simple application, you can just save the encodings into the files. If not - it's better to use a database. SQL is ok. But for the best results, I would suggest using milvus.io, as it was created for saving vectors and finding the distances (I haven't tried it, though). If your final goal is not to learn face recognition basics, you can just use free ready to use solutions like CompreFace and Machinebox
  • Welcome to the vector database subreddit board!
Please introduce yourself and let us know how you may be using vector database / vector search in your applications! We created the open-source solution known as Milvus, and we'd be thrilled if you wanted to check it out on GitHub https://github.com/milvus-io/milvus
  • Open Source vector database to support unstructure data processing: Image, Video, Audio, features and moleculars etc. Anything can be embeded, and embeddings can be handled properly within this database.
  • Milvus · Similarity Search Engine for Embeddings Reaches v1.0

  • Pgvector – vector similarity search for Postgres
    news.ycombinator.com | 2021-04-22
Others have pointed this out already, but have a look at Milvus (https://github.com/milvus-io/milvus). I was able to get a simple version of it running with searches over ~3B vectors in under a second on a single machine (with out of the box configuration, and practically no optimization done just yet).
  • [D] Good algorithm for clustering big data (sentences represented as embeddings)?
https://milvus.io/ could be a good alternative for you. Just run the server in docker and make use of the rest apis to add embeddings and query data.
  • [P] Passing embeddings to faiss for clustering
You could try to use https://milvus.io/ which is a wrapper around FAISS (and much more), this could speed things up setup-wise for you.
