TIL there are apps that can control your monitor without touching the buttons on it
There are some other command line based open-source alternatives as well, like ddctl and m1ddc - the former only works on Intel, the latter on M1 Macs (M2 Pro and HDMI is not supported). Lunar has great CLI support as well for those who want a command-line based solution.

I am thinking about getting one of these 49inch ultra wide monitors. Anybody else has this working with their MacBook pro? Does the split screen feature work well? I will probably buy a MacBook with an apple chip in the future. Do they play well together?
One other feature that I've used extensively (which should be standard on most newer monitors) is DDC/CI, where I use a command line program (m1ddc) to switch inputs on the monitor between my MBP and another computer (sometimes a Chromebook, sometimes a Steam Deck) using just a keyboard shortcut.
