Could also just throw a pi-Hole instance on a Linode and point your device's DNS at it manually to avoid using your home bandwidth all together. Then set up a Wireguard tunnel between your cloud pi-Hole and home and use gravity sync to sync changes between your home and cloud instance so you don't have to do it manually :)

My first attempt at running PiHole was in a docker container on my NAS, but I ended up running away from that setup because anytime I need to reboot the NAS or do maintenance on it I would lose DNS. I've since moved to running it on a pair of Pi 4s using Gravity Sync to keep them synced up; this lets me update and reboot them one at a time w/out issues. I just set them up as primary and secondary DNS servers on my devices/DHCP server. Interestingly they both always get some traffic, but the primary gets most of it.

Maybe gravity-sync is something you are looking for, or maybe a inspiration ? I am using this with keepalived on two of my Pis for redundancy | 2021-09-18
This project will probably get you most of the way there. You may have to tweak it for a 3 node setup. Not sure if it includes dnsmasq or not.

You could use a tool like gravity-sync to do this automatically.
