Acquisition, a 3rd-part stash management desktop app, has been updated with rate-limiting so that it's not blocked by GGG (v0.9.9 for Windows and macOS)
For everyone else, Acquisition is a 3rd-party stash management desktop application that has been around since 2014. I discovered it this summer while looking for a way to search for items rotting in Standard, just in time to discover that GGG had api rate limits, and that Acquisition was being blocked. It's an open-source project, so I decided to jump in.

While not exactly recommended, if you are too poor/cheap/new to the game to want to buy premium tabs you can use a program like Acquisition that allows you to sell things without premium tabs.

Technically you're right, but you don't need to interact with the forums directly, there are 3rd party software that do it for you. Acquisition for example was the popular choice. Seems like it still works to a certain extent although it has been abandoned.

Is it worth getting really into this game if I won't ever buy stash tabs?
You can always use open source software like https://github.com/xyzz/acquisition to help you automate trading. They still have a decent amount of tutorials but the software itself hasn’t been maintained so there are some generic bugs using it. Worst comes to worst, you can use it to just format your trade forum post and update your post manually. GL!

No Premium tabs yet - how to sell items in the mean time?
You can list your items for sale on the game's forums. There's a trade section for each league and items listed in threads there get added to the trade site. Acquisition is a tool you can use to automate the process of managing your forum shop.

You can do it for free. Check out https://github.com/xyzz/acquisition/releases besides that - i wouldn't call PoE free to play, you have to buy some stashtabs to play the game.
