  • Selling Taiko Arcade-Spec Drum
    1 project | /r/taikonotatsujin | 27 Jul 2023
I am looking to sell one of my Taiko no Tatsujin cabinet drums. This drum is built 1:1 to arcade specifications and uses the the same kind of wooden surface, shock absorbers, piezo sensors, and metal plates! Everything was imported and assembled by me. The drum has been retrofitted with an Arduino Leonardo Microcontroller, which allows it to be used with both PC and the Nintendo Switch. It is running this code: https://github.com/LuiCat/ArduinoTaikoController. Drumsticks will be included!
  • Is there a tutorial to make something similar to a Taiko Force 5?
    1 project | /r/taikonotatsujin | 16 Aug 2022
I have started to make one a few months ago but haven't completed the project yet. I would say that one area that would be the most challenging is finding the foam, vibration isolation screws, and rubber. There is a good discord server with information about building rhythm game controllers called Cons&Stuff at https://discord.gg/fknwz8s. In terms of the software side of things I tried/used this: https://github.com/LuiCat/ArduinoTaikoController. I am not sure what Arduino code would work best for PlayStation tho. I have heard a lot of people say that having the wires soldered rather than using connectors can reduce miss-fires in the sensors. I have also heard that mounting the sensors to the boards in a solid way helps. In terms of the rubber to coat the outside of the drum so the bachi bounce back, you could use certain foams or actual arcade drum covers, but they might be expensive or hard to find. The easiest alternative I've found to give a good amount of bounce is mouse pads that are about 4mm or 5mm thick. Hopefully this helps.

    - for the board, use an Arduino Leonardo. This way you can use this source code that's already been written and you can tweak it to your liking. This is way cheaper than breaking the Hori tatacon to get the board out.
  • Need help with drum rolls

I don't, I just saw a picture of an open arcade taiko and tried to replicate, also I used this code: https://github.com/LuiCat/ArduinoTaikoController it has basic electronic schematics on it.

  • Force sensing resistor or piezo sensor for drum controller?
    1 project | /r/arduino | 12 Apr 2021
So I am looking to build my own and initially I was thinking of using piezo sensors as what was recommended in this github https://github.com/LuiCat/ArduinoTaikoController/blob/master/README.md

Ah makes sense. Same for me but vice versa as I’m currently making a pocket voltex. And as for the Luicat code I think he made a few extra comments on an issue I posted up on his github about a workaround https://github.com/LuiCat/ArduinoTaikoController/issues/7
