I found and tried this one https://github.com/X3eRo0/dired.nvim it looks great! Was a bit quirky for my workflow with how it seemed to change current directory.
What I currently use is my own thing that uses straight output from ls in a buffer and adds some color to the output and maps keys to make it browsable. Very much a work in progress and only meant for my personal use at this point: https://github.com/2hdddg/fex.nvim
