For me I think it’s the best at what it does (with mini.files coming in a close second. It would probably be my first, but I prefer the whole buffer approach over the floating popups.) I’ve tried dirbuf.nvim as well, but I didn’t like that I couldn’t copy/move files.

As a rational why I did that: I often switch directories with lf (:cd) and to restore my session I had to use some hooks like DirChanged and DirChangedPre to get around some weird things happening in the lf plugin by lmburns which I used (not trying to shame, it's a great plugin, probably just not a fit for me). So to remove those, I thought why not give it a try, I also recently wrote my own functions for lazydocker / lazygit and lf also fits into the same category.
