  • finding a server: https://instances.social/ While you can pick any server I'm thinking that it's a good idea to pick something that "fits" your interests most. I initially joined mastadon.social there's a ton of users and I think there's a performance hit on loading feeds. I'm going to find something that fits better and is lower population. If you read one of the guides above you'll see that servers are independent - they have their own admins and their own rules. They also have their own hardware / virtual servers.

  • Yes but the federated feed is a firehose that I, and I assume others, do not find myself using. Whereas local feed is useful. Hence https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/6942 existing.
