I've been using plex for a long time now! I started with sickbeard and couchpotato with transmission to the arr services using newsgroups. My latest kick with tinkering has been running everything in docker containers on an ubuntu server using the linuxserver.io fleet. The provide a plex container with pre-loaded nvidia runtime to use with a GPU. Storage and 4K video has been the biggest challenge for me but earlier this week I was able to resolve it with tdarr in docker. Tdarr will automatically encode your videos for you in your desired format to save some storage without losing quality. Another great find this week was trash-guides.info which has a lot of good information for optimizing the arr services. Last year I was looking to purchase a HD HomeRun for live tv but found a neat docker container called xTeVe which emulates a DVR tuner. The best part of it is that you can setup as many tuners as you want! I found that the IPTV service ApolloGroup.tv has the best subscription for $20/month with over 4,000 channels from all over the world and 5 tuners.. Take that YouTube TV! Long story short, I am in the same boat as you and enjoy making things better and better!
I wrote a few python scripts, but the only one I have published right now is this one - it sends plex library updates to a discord server via webhook and puts it in a nicely-formatted message (there are screenshots on the github page). I'm planning to publish a couple more of my scripts but they mostly also relate to integrating plex (and its related services) with discord. For example, another one maintains a few discord channels that act as counters for my plex server, and another one that updates tautulli and overseerr nicknames / display names to match discord usernames.
Tidal is excellent, but they tend not to have obscure artists. It also doesn't help in my case that some of the music I occasionally listen to is not streamable. Anyways, if you want to share the love with your users, Tidal-Downloader works pretty well for .flac acquisition. Now if only I could automate it and fix Tidal's metadata (it's also broken in their apps).
TLDR; MergerFS builds a hard link between a set of folders locally and cloud that appear the same from the local machine.
