My answer for almost everything is IPFS. With the 'filestore' option you can share whatever you have on your disk.
My recent favorite has been feeding IPFS directories into Plex using a combination of IPNS and the 'mount' option. Then, you're not giving people access to your plex, they feed in the directory to their plex and it gets the metadata for the videos and they play whatever they want on demand. It's like a DIY Netflix.
