I'm totally abusing Cunningham's Law and posting my mechanical keyboard KVM setup in hopes that someone can point me towards a better one. I'm also very familiar with virtual KVM software like Synergy, Barrier, and Mouse Without Borders. I'm in a mixed Windows 10 and MacOS environment, and unfortunately Barrier has an open issue where keyboard modifiers don't get applied to scroll wheel gestures. My current workflow has me Ctrl-Scrolling frequently to zoom into an area of a canvas, so Barrier/Synergy is a no-go.
A popular alternative hotkey is double-tapping Ctrl or Scroll Lock, and then pressing 1 or 2. These seemed to have a few issues with them. According to some Amazon reviews, a few of these KVMs will stop reading keyboard input after they sense the double-tap command. On these KVMs, you'd need to press 1 or 2 on your keyboard to continue typing any time you accidentally double press Ctrl in quick succession. Some keyboards let you configure which keyboard command you'd like to use, but even in that case, MacOS doesn't always report the scroll lock led status in a way that a KVM can detect it. You'd need to do some sort of workaround, such as running this osx-kvm utility on the Mac side.
