The unlock sequence also has some timing considerations that can be difficult to meet if you are using digitalWrite calls to access your pins. If you followed the Ben Eater build for your programmer, try loading this unlocker sketch to unlock your chip. It will send the unlock sequence and then burn a test pattern. If that works, just reload your own sketch and you are good to go!
