what's up with inotifywait & this odd 'aborting' behavior?

I've wondered if I should use a different tool like https://github.com/eradman/entr or https://github.com/facebook/watchman (and node.js scripts watch filesystem all the time)... but I'd much prefer to stick with inotify if possible and appropriate.
