Final; I saw this and am wondering whether there are ways to prevent this. Or if any of it really matters once I use a self-hosted server. Also, what exactly would LE have access to if they confiscated my basement homeserver in this case? I'd imagine lots of encrypted files, but would it include all of the metadata described in that paper or could I turn that off on my server?
First question; I understand that everything is E2E, so in theory it should not matter if I use matrix.org as my homeserver for the initial test, right? This would mean that the encrypted messages will be stored on the server and could be decrypted in the future by the server owner if they get the keys or the hardware to break it. Can anyone who connects to the server have access to the encrypted messages, or just the server owner? Are messages that are sent to private spaces like in my setup compartmentalized from the rest of the server? Do they typically get deleted from the homeserver over time?
