Is using "modern" C++ good or bad ? I hear conflicting opinions. Is "C-like C++" better ?

  • Right, there's no silver bullet. The other extreme is what we have now where no major changes or improvements can be made because they'll break backcompat, and the people that are willing to upgrade are stuck with the problems around features like regex. What we've got now is that old versions of libraries get standardised, and the libraries continue to develop - e.g. fmt has had some major improvements. Are we going to get these in std::format?
