I’ve been trying [Lemmy](https://join-lemmy.org) for a while - it’s an open source, federated alternative to Reddit (and uses an interface similar to old.reddit.com). The main instance has a pretty heavy left bias, and like all less well known social media platforms, it suffers from a lack of content and engagement. But these are issues that can be tackled over time with more users joining the platform.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
