You have to assume that the source code is also compromised/infected. Someone has to go through the entire source code and check if it's legit or not. The author pointed for example to this commit because of it's size, you could quickly overlook malicious code. commit

There was another similar project I've tried, potentially this, which actually worked better for me, and filtered out all non-humans sounds, unlike NoiseTorch.
