Newpipe is even better in a lot of ways IMO, especially for playing music. It doesn't support signing in, but its background play is much nicer and it's open source. (website, Github, and F-Droid).
There is mpv .net (mpv dot net is not the website, it has a github not to be confused with the TLD .net, .net is a microsoft project https://dotnet.microsoft.com/) for windows as well. I don't use windows mpv but some of my employees do, the menu pops up via right clicking the screen. The linux version has hotkeys and a config file, there are also mplayer and smplayer, but if you actually like minimalism you'll like mpv at it's default for sure.
I would make sure to NEVER do this if I hadn't also made sure to NEVER install youtube-dl, though this is also something I'll keep in mind.
