That said, while polyfills aren't necessarily possible for all of the APIs, there is one at least for the Paint API which claims to get reasonably good performance. So if you're use-cases aren't too advanced, it might be a viable option.

According to Mozilla's standard positions, the Houdini APIs are considered worth prototyping, but unfortunately there are higher-priority APIs taking precedence right now before a Firefox implementation is worked on. It seems likely to me that the Paint API will be the first to be developed when that changes.
