The /r/place Atlas is a project aiming to catalog all the artworks created during Reddit's 2022 /r/place event.
The GitHub repository has all the needed files and guides needed to make animations like this. I've made it so that the repository contains a single frame, so if you wanted, you could download the repository as a zip file and open r-place.blend and it will work right out of the box! Blender is also a free download, so its easy and free to get started, without even having to code. The README in the repository has links to beginner video tutorials for Python and Blender. This is a complete time lapse of the Canadian flag in r/Place 2022. The height corresponds to a pixel's "heat" value. The heat of a pixel is get increased every time it gets clicked, and then decays exponentially over time. You can find the specifics for how this works in a Jupyter Notebook in the GitHub repository for this project. It was made with the help of Python and Blender.
