Is there an osm alternative to the "road shape" Google Maps has in big cities? They draw the outline of the road instead of just straight lines, including crosswalk & median. Is there a way to draw an area where the road surface is, (similar to parking lots areas)?

  • StreetComplete

Easy to use OpenStreetMap editor for Android

  • area:highway was already mentioned, but I'll add: https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetComplete/releases/tag/v41.0 Street complete can measure the width of roads. Obviously it won't be as exact as highway area for intersections, but it's likely faster and easier. I personally haven't tried it out yet.

  • osm2lanes

Discontinued A common library and set of test cases for transforming OSM tags to lane specifications

  • A recent talk covers why this is hard, and possible steps forward. Slides, video. There's active work going on in osm2lanes and another piece we're spinning out for geometry, if anyone's interested in working on this
