I've used a combination of https://kbfirmware.com/, http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com and https://noroadsleft.github.io/kbf_qmk_converter/ to build my config, keyboard, rules etc. files, and I'm not going to pretend to understand c. I have however gone through https://docs.qmk.fm/#/feature_split_keyboard and added some entries to my config.h and rules.mk as suggested.

Right now I'm comparing your source with https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/keyboards/lets_split/keymaps/default/keymap.c Seeing if there are obvious differences.
