New to 3d printing , can i model and build my own vertical dactyl easily?

Not to be negative, but what makes you think you'll get the design right the first time? Personally I'd try building something similar to what I wanted, then iterating from there. This might be a good starting point: https://github.com/Bastardkb/charybdis
