I've been trying to find an alternative (preferably open-source and customizable) frontend for emulation after the whole RetroArch dev controversies. Right now I'm scraping games with Skyscraper and cleaning up No-Intro ROM-sets with a 1G1R ROM-set generator.

I'm astonished no one mentioned Pegasus. It's open-source and it supports Linux and Android. With a little bit of setting up, it works with every emulator I throw at it just as long as it supports being launched from the command-line.
For CRT shaders on Linux, I'd imagine that Gamescope + vkBasalt (with these shaders) could work. I just discovered it today, but the results have been hit and miss (I've used it for MAME because I don't like its built-in shaders. Regular games like Minetest and Garry's Mod also work, but Minecraft and Freedom Planet don't)
