Another thing I've learned when implementing gif.ski is that the GIF spec has a whole section about background colors, which in modern viewers does exactly nothing. Nowadays background means transparent, no matter what color is set in the GIF file. There are GIFs out there that rely on you ignoring what the spec says, ignoring the color, and treating all backgrounds as transparent.
