It's because as far as I know, OBS isn't supported natively on wayland, but there is a beta of OBS that fixes it
In the meantime, you could probably use something like obs-cli, set up scripts to start and stop recording, and bind them to hotkeys in KWin.
It's a bit more complicated than that, but essentially yes, see e.g. xkbcat and some other of the keyloggers linked there.
