Use Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition, it's a very "noob-friendly" distro. As someone who doesn't know a lot about Linux, Mint has been an absolute breeze, only needing a tutorial here and there to do things like bash scripting (for fun) or installing software with APT. Installing things is usually very easy, just get it using the Software Manager (it's like the App Store on Mac OS) or by downloading and opening a DEB package, then clicking Install. Mint is based on Ubuntu as well, so they should be compatible with eachother. It also comes with LibreOffice, a text editor with syntax highlighting (appears in the document after saving it with a script extension, like SH), and heaps of other useful things. Here's Mint's website, you can download it here.
I personally would recommend not using Manjaro. Here are some issues with Manjaro. I'm not a huge fan of Ubuntu because I've gotten so used to how Arch works, which is way different to Debian and friends, but I most definitely cannot deny that it's a good solid distro.
