Spyder is a lightweight IDE designed specifically for scientific development. It is a great option if you're developing in Python for science and engineering purposes, but it's not going to be helpful when working on general-purpose projects or web applications - so keep that in mind before committing!
Atom is a newer editor released by Github in 2015. It bills itself as "hackable to the core" because nearly every part of the editor is customizable through plugins or themes. This makes it perfect for those who love to tinker with their tools and build them exactly how they want. It's also incredibly lightweight, so it won't slow down your machine like some of the other heavyweight IDEs on this list!
