This is a great project! There might be a few approaches to this you can take.I have a small dashboard running on Smashing. Most of the work I have done to get that running is integrating different APIs into the sinatra layer. It is all in Ruby.

Another alternative might be mempool.space. I believe they have an API, but you can also run their software locally, and possibly build queries from that. All of their code is open source on Github. Edit: Memspace is a blockchain explorer, so it might not provide you with the all of the data you are looking for (price, most active coin)
