  • Why has transaction fees skyrocketed these past couple weeks?
Use custom fees and check mempool.space. 1 sat/vbyte (lowest possible fee) is very doable these days (sometimes it might take a few hours, sometimes it will be quick).

Anytime you send bitcoin to somewhere else you pay a fee. So if you are sending your bitcoin in your wallet to an app you will pay a fee. What you want the fee is entirely up to you. A good place to understand fees is https://mempool.space/ this is a fee visualizer that will give you a breakdown of fees if your transaction is high, medium of low priority. That way if you can wait, you can set the fee very low and wait for confirmation. If you need it in the next block you should set it at high priority.

Thanks for pointing me to mempool.space. I've been using https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC,24h,weight to get a general idea of how expensive the fees are, but this seems simpler.
  • Fluctuating network fees for deposits
A network fee is based on how heavy the traffic is. You can take a gander at the average price of BTC here https://mempool.space/. The Exchanges set a high transaction fee so they make money from you, even after paying for the network fee. You will be surprised how much extra money those Exchanges pocket for profits
  • How much is a fee normally for sending bitcoin from Ledger NANO to an exchange?
Ledger Live will try to determine the appropriate fee itself, but you can also override it for a bit more control. You can query a website like https://mempool.space/ for the current situation with regards to fees. At the time of writing, a "high priority" transaction (= high chance of being included in the next block) would cost about 14 sat/vbyte. A typical transaction would cost the equivalent of around $1. These fees are fairly high right now and in the past month, they've almost always been lower, often dipping down to 1 or 2 sat/vbyte.
The answer in in your first response, check the https://mempool.space/ site. But typically a BTC transfer will be less than a dollar most times these days. Other currencies may be more or less.
