I think it's really important for people to start using open platforms like Lemmy and Mastodon because we need social media platforms that are answerable to regular people as opposed to corporate interests. For better or worse, social media has become an invaluable tool and an integral part of our society. It’s a way for people to get news and to discuss it with their peers as well as a tool for education.
