I wouldn't recommend installing by myself on root directory and automatic updates on root directory rather won't work properly. If you want on root, then maybe better would be to install one of my packages => https://github.com/hawkeye116477/waterfox-deb-rpm-arch-AppImage#adding-repositorydirect-download. However if you want on user directory and create shortcuts and other extras, then script https://github.com/hawkeye116477/install-waterfox-linux is great helper for this.
